Most log furniture in the market today is made with unpeeled hickory.

If you are opting for a wood type that can endure the stress given by different weather conditions but without rot deteriorating its quality, that’s Northern White Cedar. This wood has an attractive light grain color when fresh but attractively turns into something like silvery gray when old. Naturally, the cracks are there but these cracks are just part of the wood’s natural zest. Of course, they have nothing to do with the woods or the log furniture’s design, functionality and durability.

Red Cedar or Aromatic cedar from the juniper family is a deeply aromatic and heavy wood that is naturally rot and insect resistant. Try furniture like dressers made of red cedar and you’ll see insects like moth will keep away from it. You can often see cedar-made furniture in either purple or brownish red. It becomes browner as it ages and you are assured that cedar furniture will last a long time and can be even be heirloom pieces.
